SUCCESS IN LIFE STARTS WITH SHOWING UP

By Published On: January 28th, 2019

These boys have had 3 weekends in a row of competitions, with 9 hours of training during the week in between.

They were exhausted and it took their toll on them.

Robbie literally slept through school on Friday after a day home on thursday and getting a leave pass from gymnastics training on thursday night. (I told him he didn’t have to go to school and if he wanted to come home, just call me and I’ll come get him. The nurse knew that too.)

And apparently he told his teacher… he was just tired and wanted to sleep but wanted to be there for math. So his teacher let him put his head down on his desk and he slept all morning until math… He came home from school on Friday went straight to his room and slept for hours… not even wanting to be up for dinner.

Sam was home thursday and Friday…

Both of them… not feeling great and totally exhausted.

When it came to get them up at 6:30a on Saturday morning… we weren’t sure if they would be getting up to compete… if they would make it at all…

But here is what I said to them when they woke up and BOTH felt well enough to compete…

SIMPLY SHOW UP.

When Sam left for the meet… he didn’t even want to put his uniform on. He was adamant he was not competing.

I said… SHOW UP.

You don’t have to compete, but you get to SHOW UP and be with your team.

I knew that being there would have him WANT to compete, of course.

But I honestly didn’t care if he did or not.

I honestly didn’t care if EITHER of them placed that day.

SIMPLY SHOW UP.

That’s what it takes in life… SHOW UP.

And these two didn’t just show up… they made me SO DAMN PROUD of how they gave it everything they had.

Some of their routines getting their highest scores in all 3 weeks.

Life is a head game.

If you can win the game in your mind… you can win at life.

And these boys are simply blowing me away with how they show up in life.

I truly can’t wait to see what they create in their lives with this level of attitude, commitment, dedication and ability to simply SHOW UP.

I said to Robbie when he woke up excited to compete and feeling up for it…

‘Bud… You know that reserve tank? The one that somehow manages to have energy even when you think you don’t?’

He said… ‘yeah… I know.’

I said.. .that’s what you are going to need today… Take your energy from that tank. You’ve got it in you.

And geez… it brings me tears writing this with how proud I am of them.

Truly… if they had simply gone, put their uniforms on and cheered their teammates on… it would have been enough for me… simply showing up for their team.

No surprises that they went above and beyond.

I am so dang proud of these boys.

My heart and joy.

My legacy to the world.

BTW- where are you not showing up in life? Look hard at yourself and be honest. I bet there is somewhere. SHOW UP. It will change your life.
