WE DANCED and MY SOUL IS HAPPY

By Published On: January 4th, 2019

Last night… the music pumped, a joyful dance. Energy cleared through my body, a new beginning.

It was the first time I have danced in 13 weeks where my body actually moved and oh it felt so good to move.

Not only that… my boys were there. My hubby and kids.

And my mother-in-law had her first experience of dance with me… with trepidation, but she came and danced.

And there were some other families from school. A tribe gathered.

I felt surrounded by love.

I felt so much joy to introduce my medicine to new people.

I felt so much love for all that were there.

I danced with strangers. I danced with friends and family.

And THE BEST PART… the part that brought me to tears and an overwhelming amount of JOY and GRATITUDE…

was seeing my kids move through the space in their POWER.

They started the evening making their way to the cards… where the quietly sat, pulling cards… looking to the book and reading that. That is totally their normal.

I saw them drawing adults in to dance. Leading them in dance. Bringing more smiles, more joy, more laughter to the room. MY HEART EXPLODED and I couldn’t help but laugh and smile with them.

You see… this dance… is a form of expression.

For my 6 and 9 year old to feel the confidence to lead the adult in a dance… WOW.

What a testament to WHO THEY ARE. To the confidence they bring to this world, as there are MANY adults who would not feel that sense of confidence to do the same.

I love seeing them stand in their truth… in their power and own that.

I love that they can come to a place where we dance and don’t speak and for the most part… they go 2 hours without talking. They know the rules. They dance and lose themselves too.

It truly was a special night and my heart is soo full.

Thank you to Ahva Lenay and ALL the adults and space holders at Rhythm Sanctuary for providing this space for us to come as a family and lose ourselves.

For providing a space where kids (and adults) can know this as their truth. For them to be able to express themselves fully, be seen and loved for who they are and simply be in a space of love, healing and expression as medicine.

I am beyond grateful for this space and for the ability to show my kids this path and have it be their CHOICE to show up this way. It is truly a blessing to be raising this generation of leaders.

Thanks Sue Norley, Erin Cathcart, Amy Irish (thanks for your hubby and daughter), Sara Guenther and Kari L. Rivers Geurts for an awesome dance!
