I feel so grateful to be raising a child
Hugh says to Robbie (9yo) today… “Robbie, if you ever want to win a girl’s heart… play guitar and sing to her.”
Robbie says: “or play violin or cello or something else…”
Us: Yup… absolutely Robbie. Whatever musical instrument that calls you.
The reality is… On one of our first dates Hugh played for me the song “Into Temptation” by Crowded House. My heart cracked open. Ever since then… Hugh tells me he loves me through song. He sings to me. Many days of the week. It’s beautiful and I love every part of it. He often sings and plays as I make dinner… our food is so full of love.
Anyway… at the time they were speaking… Hugh was playing “Marry Me” by train to me. He hasn’t played that for me in a long time, but I asked him today and he did… he was playing it, then he finger picked it, then he sang it, then moved on to a another song… and I said to him… “Hey, You just told Robbie to woo a woman play her a song and sing it. Please put that all together for me.”
And he did.
And my heart cracked open more.
I said to Robbie, “See when Daddy sings and plays for Mommy, her heart cracks open more. And I fall even more in love with daddy.”
Robbie says: “Bout you already love daddy”
I said: “But I can always love him even more.”
He says… “Yeah… and you can always love him a little less.“
I said: “Yup… that’s true too.” (Wise words from a 9 year old.)
This conversation right here says so much about our family. I love my family. I absolutely frickin LOVE getting to raise to incredibly conscious kids in the most incredibly conscious way of parenting.
I love being truthful with my kids. I love showing them that relationships have ups and downs. And that through it all… we can all always love each other. We teach kids LOVE. And this was so perfectly summed up in this moment in time today.
I feel so grateful to be raising a child, a boy that will grow into a ridiculously beautiful man… who will honour and respect women, who will love deeply, who will express his feelings, because he knows how to and has always felt safe in doing so… a man that will have a relationship with money. Honouring money and knowing what it can do for him and others.
I feel so grateful to have such a loving home with people who want to and do light up the world. And I just wanted to share this beautiful moment in time. I am truly so blessed.
