I sit here in the airport in Chicago after a quick trip to drop my 9yo off to overnight camp.
Coming to Chicago, where I was born and raised, ALWAYS brings up stuff for me. I left here at 18yo and was in and out of town during my college years and spent one year here working as an early childhood teacher in the inner city before heading to Australia.
So coming back here always reminds me of the expectations of what my life was “supposed to be” as a “Jewish princess” from the north shore of Chicago.
Honestly… I have travelled all around the world and there are few places in the world quite like the affluent bubble of the north shore.
I know that… In order to be ME, in my fullest expression… I had to leave the bubble so that I could learn that there was another way to do life. And whilst I still embrace an abundance of the learnings that were so empowering from growing up in this bubble… there are some that I just don’t fit into.
For example… How dare I talk about orgasms and cannabis and share the hardships of my life, my relationships, etc… in such a public forum as this?
Maybe I should keep it quiet? Maybe I should put it somewhere less public?
Maybe… Just MAYBE… I SHOULD BE LESS OF ME?
MAYBE… just MAYBE… I shouldn’t share this all and I should NOT FOLLOW MY SOUL’S CALLING?
This is some of what came up this weekend.
Because how I grew up… HOW DARE I AIR MY DIRTY LAUNDRY?
Keep a gorgeous facade and make it all look perfect. EVEN IF… things are a shambles behind the doors.
*** BTW… no amount of money will buy your happiness or give you LESS emotional turmoil. WE ARE ALL HUMANS DEALING WITH HUMAN STUFF. NO MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE***
You will continue to hear about how I grew up AVOIDING confrontation. I grew up doing everything I could to keep the peace… even if that meant… not standing up for my beliefs with the most important people in my life. And so… I would often nod and smile and do what I was told.
And I come to you… after another weekend in Chicago… another time of facing my stuff… and this time walking out without ANY COMPROMISE.
THE CALL OF MY SOUL SAYS…
Show up here… on social media… baring my soul… talking about some ridiculously controversial topics…
EXPOSING MY LIFE… EXPOSING MY VERY OUTSIDE THE BOX THINKING.
Sharing what life is like when you follow your heart’s calling and are willing to do what is asked of you, though intuitive guidance… versus what OTHER PEOPLE TELL YOU IS RIGHT.
I mean really… HOW CAN OTHER PEOPLE KNOW WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
How can other people know what your body needs to fuel you?
How can other people know how much sleep you need?
How can other people know which career is for you?
HOW CAN ANYONE KNOW THE BEST WAY FORWARD IN EACH AND EVERY MOMENT OF THE DAY EXCEPT FOR YOU?
AND… How many times do YOU allow the expectations of others…
The expectations of SOCIETY…
The expectations of family lineage…
The expectations of ANYONE or anything BESIDES YOU DICTATE YOUR LIFE?
Seriously… think about that.
Right now.
I would bet you do it WAY MORE THAN YOU even think you are.
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN FOR YOU IN YOUR LIFE IF YOU ACTUALLY STARTED TO ONLY LISTEN TO THE CALL OF YOUR SOUL?
HOW AMAZING WOULD YOUR LIFE BE THEN?
I can tell you…
IT’S LIMITLESS.
EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE WHEN YOU LISTEN TO YOUR HEART AND FOLLOW IT… NO QUESTIONS ASKED… EVEN WHEN IT ASKS YOU TO DO THE CRAZIEST SHIT THAT YOU WOULD NEVER HAVE DREAMED OF… YOU LISTEN AND ACT.
That is listening to the call of your soul… and this is your entire purpose on this planet.
EACH OF US has a different purpose… a different soul contract… different wounds to heal…
NO ONE PERSON WILL WALK THE SAME PATH…
So for the love of yourself… STOP LISTENING TO EVERYONE ELSE…
LISTEN TO YOUR HEART AND SOUL.
Maybe… It sounds so simple… Or maybe you have no idea where to begin.
Maybe it is something that is spoken of and you swear you are doing it, but life is not playing “nice” with you and you are questioning EVERYTHING…
Maybe you have been getting the tap on the shoulder to go DEEPER WITHIN to find your own answers and you have NO IDEA where to turn.
Maybe you are in confusion of what to do next…
Maybe you know what is calling you, but you are shit scared of what you are being asked to do and you are coming up against people telling you that you are crazy, that it’s a bad idea.. that how dare you do this… etc… WHATEVER they are saying to you…
And you don’t know how to TUNE THEM OUT.
First of all.. it’s not tuning them out. It’s about listening to them and honouring them for where they are at and politely telling them… you are still going to be 100% COMPLETELY AND FULLY AUTHENTIC AND IN ALIGNMENT TO YOU, NO MATTER WHAT.
Which of course… has nothing to do with them. Neither of you are right or wrong. You just ARE. Living your life in your own lane… your own path.
This weekend… I had the opportunity to have people question my writing… question what I am doing by sharing so intimately… and jeopardising my ability to get a “JOB” because of what I share…
And then… to honour them for their values and still stand in mine.
And still sit here… and write this post… honouring the call of my soul.
ALWAYS. FIRST AND FOREMOST.
Maybe you aren’t a writer. Maybe you aren’t a messenger. Maybe you aren’t wanting to share your life vulnerably for the world to read about…
But there is something… A DEEP KNOWING… Tapping on your shoulder… calling your soul… ONTO YOUR PATH.
ARE YOU LISTENING?
ARE YOU ANSWERING THE CALL?
If not… WHY?
What is stopping you?
For the love of yourself…
